Our Screening Process
Oral cancer accounts for 2.9% of all cancer cases in the United States. Each year, an estimated 51,000 people will develop oral cancer, with 10,000 fatalities expected. It can occur on the tongue, tonsils, gums, lips, cheek lining, and hard palate. Men over 50 who smoke and drink heavily are at higher risk. Additional risk factors include UV exposure, GERD, prior head and neck radiation, certain chemicals, and poor diet.
- Review your history: Discuss any changes in your oral or overall health.
- Examine thoroughly: Check your mouth, head, and neck for signs of oral cancer.
